Sowing for a Harvest

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)

Six Principles to Embrace as a Joyful Giver:

1. God owns everything and I'm his money manager.

We are the managers of the assets God has entrusted, not given, to us.

2. My heart always goes where I put God's money.

Watch what happens when you reallocate your money from temporal things to eternal things.

3. Heaven, not earth, is my home.

We are citizens of a better country, a heavenly one.

4. I shouldn't live for the dot (our brief life on earth today) but for the line (our eternal life in heaven).

From the dot, our present life on earth, extends a line that goes on forever, which is eternity in heaven.

5. Giving is the only antidote to materialism.

Giving is a joyful surrender to a great person and a greater agenda. It dethrones me and exalts Him.

6. God prospers me not to raise my standard of living, but to raise my standard of giving.

God gives us more money than we need so we can give generously.

Q: Does the Bible really discuss money?

Actually, giving is one of the central themes in the Bible.

Jesus talked more about money in NT more than heaven, hell, and prayer combined

16 of 38 Parables Jesus told related to money and possessions

5 times more is said about money than prayer   288 verses in gospels (1 in 10) deal directly with money

500+ verses on prayer and faith but there are over 2000 verses on money and possessions

To fully understand what it means to be a Christ-follower, we must also understand what it means to be a giver, including time, talents and treasure.
